Well folks, the time has arrived!
December brings the new adventure of school
ending and a trip to Kenya.
We will be
departing Sarh on Thursday the 13
th and then will head to Nairobi
(via Addis) on Saturday the 15
th.
Bring on the long bus trip and flight because
it certainly doesn't feel like Christmas here in Sarh.
I am told that Nairobi is as commercial about
Christmas as the States, so even if it is summer there, at least I will get to
see some gaudy decorations.
Just
listening to Christmas music and cutting a few snowflakes just doesn't cut it
here in the tropical climates.
We will be staying in Kenya for about 6 weeks. I will get the opportunity to meet much of
Moses' family. We will also be visiting
other friends. There are many fun things
to see and do as well, such as go to a baby elephant orphanage, nature walk,
etc. So many animals to see! We will also be going to Mombasa for about 1
week. Two years in a row that I will be
spending some of my holiday at the beach, one could get used to this!
We finished school this past Friday and will only be doing
journaling and reading while in Kenya.
We doubled up on some lessons so that we won't be too far behind for the spring
semester.
We have been experimenting
with papayas due to the plethora we have.
We tried to dry some in a solar dehydrator
out back.
We have not perfected the
thickness or the flavoring, but each batch provides a little more
information.
We don't feel too bad about
a wasted papaya because we can hardly eat them fast enough.
